Three players scored in double figures for South Georgia State College Wednesday night, but that wasn’t enough as the Georgia Highlands Chargers pulled away in the second half to win, 74-67.

Lay Davis led the Hawks (17-9, 8-4 GCAA) with 20 points and five rebounds. Devon Rainey had 16 points, and Kyric Davis finished with 14 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and four blocked shots.

The game was close statistically in all categories except for one. The Hawks shot 10 percent from the three-point line (1-of-10) with the only make coming late in the second half. The Chargers made 36 percent of their three-point shots (9-of-25).

SGSC has four regular season games remaining, two of which will be at home. The Hawks will host Southern Crescent Tech March 2 at 3 p.m. and close out the regular season home schedule March 6 at 7 p.m. against Albany Tech.

Despite Wednesday night’s loss, the Hawks remain in the hunt to host a GCAA Tournament quarterfinal game. The top four teams at the end of the regular season host a March 12 quarterfinal. The highest remaining seed after the quarterfinal round will host the semifinals and championship game March 15-16.

The SGSC athletic department has announced a change in ticket pricing for home basketball games. All regular season home games are now $7 with children five and under admitted free.
