The Coffee Trojans exacted a little revenge on the Brantley County Herons Wednesday afternoon at Charles Wilson Field in Douglas. The Trojans defeated the Herons 7-3, avenging their only loss of the season, which Brantley dished out last week on the road.

The two teams matched each other for the first two innings, with both scoring a run in each frame. The Herons took a 3-2 led in the top of the fourth then the Trojans erupted for five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-3 advantage that held for the remainder of the game.

Pitcher/shortstop Ben Fussell drove in two runs while Brax Carson and Michael Strickland walked two times apiece.

Fussell started and recorded the win for Coffee. He threw four innings, giving up six hits, three runs (two earned), and striking out nine. Fussell is 4-0 with a 1.26 ERA this season. Gavin McElroy threw three two-hit innings in relief for the save.

The Trojans are back in action today against the Colquitt County Packers in Moultrie. On February 20, Coffee defeated Colquitt 4-2 at home. Yesterday’s win improves the Trojans to 10-1 this season. After Thursday’s game, Coffee is off until Tuesday, when Greenbrier comes to town for the first region game of the year. The Trojans are currently sitting at #2 in the state 5A rankings according to MaxPreps.
