If you have to stay home and play baseball during Spring Break, you may as well make it count. And that’s exactly what the Coffee Trojans did Tuesday against the Bradwell Institute Tigers. The Trojans dismantled the Tigers 15-0 in three innings.
How efficient was Coffee? Every Trojan reached base and starting pitcher Michael Strickland threw a 34-pitch complete game. He allowed just two hits and struck out four. The only Coffee player who didn’t get a hit was senior centerfielder Zae Smith. But then again, he didn’t have much of a chance. What he did have, though, was a target on his back — he was hit by pitches three different times and did manage to score once.
The Trojans scored three in the first, five in the second, and seven in the third to put the game away early. Offensively, the two Bens had big days for Coffee. Leadoff hitter Ben Fussell was 4-4 with three runs scored and an RBI while Ben Roberts drove in a team high five runs. He was 2-2 and scored a pair as well. Connor Stewart had a hit, two walks, and two runs scored.
The Trojans are 17-5 overall and 6-4 in region play. They finish off the three-game series with the Tigers in a double-header Friday afternoon at Charles Wilson Field in Douglas. Game one begins at 4 p.m.
