The CCA Patriots wrapped up the regular season Wednesday afternoon with a tough 8-3 loss to the Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders in Douglas. The Crusaders used a six-run fifth inning to leave Coffee County with the win. Despite the loss, the Patriots finish the season with a 20-9 record (5-1 in region play) and a region championship. The also won two games earlier in the week, defeating Grace Christian Academy 4-2 on Monday and Westwood 10-3 on Tuesday.
Wednesday, CCA was behind the eight ball from the start. The Crusaders scored two in the second then, while holding on to a 2-1 lead, erupted in the fifth for six. The Patriots added two in the bottom of the fifth but that’s all they could muster.
Thomas Gentry led the way offensively. He was 2-3 with two RBI. Jonathan Rutland, Jackson Knight, and Landon Williams scored CCA’s runs.
Gentry also started for the Patriots and threw four innings of solid baseball. He gave up one hit, two earned runs, and five walks while striking out five. Sam Ables, Taeven Harden, and Gray McLean also saw action on the mound.
“Monday is going to be game 30. We are all a little tired and hurting but we are going to get after it. We will give the guys a few days to reset then we’ll be ready for next week,” said head coach Jeremy Coram.
CCA has a break for a few days before the playoffs begin. Augusta Prep comes to town Monday afternoon for a double header. Game one begin at 1:30 p.m. with game two to follow afterwards.
