Coffee Trojans senior RHP/catcher Payton Bryant is the Region 1-5A Player of the Year while 10 other Trojans made the various All Region teams. The All Region selections were announced earlier this week.
On the mound, Bryant threw 27 innings in 12 games, five of which he started. He posted a 6-3 record with a 2.85 ERA, one save, 31 strikeouts, and 12 walks. Offensively, Bryant hit .416 (.488 OBP) with eight home runs and 40 RBI. He scored 20 runs and walked 18 times to 11 strikeouts. Behind the plate, Bryant posted a .990 fielding percentage with just two errors. Bryant will join teammate and fellow All Region selection Cannon Jones at the University of South Carolina-Aiken next year.
Here are the 1st Team All Region selections: 2B Cannon Jones (.456, .595 OBP, 30 RBI, 25 walks, 10 strikeouts, .938 fielding percentage), CF Zae Smith (.271, .475 OBP, three home runs, 23 RBI, 23 runs, .984 fielding percentage), SS/P Ben Fussell (.385, .551 OBP, one home run, 20 RBI, 36 runs, 48 1/3 innings pitched, 9-1, 2.75 ERA, 46 strikeouts, 29 walks), LF Ben Roberts (.368, .484 OBP, 33 RBI, 27 runs, .958 fielding percentage), P/1B Michael Strickland (.402, .579 OBP, five home runs, 26 RBI, 40 runs, 56 innings pitched, 6-2 with a 1.86 ERA, 76 strikeouts, 19 walks), and RHP Gavin McElroy (28.1 innings pitched, 3-0 with a 1.98 ERA, three saves in three opportunities, 30 strikeouts, 20 walks).
3B Connor Stewart made 2nd Team All Region. He hit .404 with a .509 OBP, 23 RBI, and 23 runs.
Here are the Honorable Mention All Region selections: 1B Carter McMillan (.257, .376 OBP, three home runs, 21 RBI, 12 runs scored), utility player Braydon Musgrove (.217, .422 OBP, 10 RBI, 21 runs, .929 fielding percentage), and OF Hunter Bennett (.444, .583 OBP, nine RBI, seven runs).
The Trojans finished the 2024 season with a 27-7 record. They advanced to the second round of the state playoffs.
