Earlier this month, a Douglas police officer arrested an individual who was allegedly living in a vacant apartment at Deerfield Apartments. Apartment personnel had asked the suspect to leave several times before calling police.

According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, on December 12, 2024, at around 9 a.m., an officer responded to Deerfield Apartments in reference to a possible criminal trespass incident. An employee told the officer that a man, identified as Brandon Adrian Tarrant, 26, of Douglas, had been staying in a vacant apartment for several days. He had been asked to leave multiple times but he kept coming back.

The officer entered the apartment and found Tarrant sleeping on the floor in a back bedroom. A .380 handgun was on the floor near Tarrant. The officer picked up the gun and unloaded it. According to the report, the officer believed the gun was stolen (the officer later found out that the gun had in fact been reported as stolen).

The officer woke Tarrant up and placed him under arrest. After putting Tarrant in the patrol car, the officer retrieved Tarrant’s belongings from inside the apartment. He had a backpack that contained watches, necklaces, .380 ammunition, .22 LR ammunition, and a loaded Ruger 9mm magazine.

Tarrant was charged with criminal trespass and entering an auto or other motor vehicle to commit theft or a felony. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail.
