It’s probably not a good idea to be out at 2 a.m. in the snow filming a music video (or doing anything else at that hour). But that’s what two individuals were doing on January 22, 2025. And both ended up in jail as a result.
According to incident report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded to an Old Axson Road address in reference to threats. The officer arrived and spoke with Larry Thigpen, 25, of Douglas. Thigpen stated that he was outside making snowmen for his trailer park when James Ojeda, 34, of Douglas, approached him to record Ojeda for a music video. Thigpen agreed to video Ojeda, the report states, but then Ojeda threatened to shoot Thigpen. In the report, Thigpen stated that Ojeda hit him several times. The deputy saw a little dried blood on Thigpen’s lip but there were no visible injuries. The report says that Thigpen also admitted to drinking that night.
The officer then spoke to Ojeda who said that he did ask Thigpen to record him. As they walked toward the road, he realized how deep the snow was and decided to just go back home. In the report, Ojeda stated that Thigpen became angry and started swinging a stick at him. Ojeda said that Thigpen threatened to beat him up but Ojeda didn’t threaten him back, the report says. Ojeda then stated that he told Thigpen to go away and Ojeda went into his home. The report says that Ojeda had been drinking as well.
The report says that the deputy saw a video on Thigpen’s phone. The officer could hear Thigpen yelling a threat toward Ojeda. The video also showed Thigpen standing in the road outside of Ojeda’s home yelling about money and threatening to fight Ojeda. Ojeda can be seen walking toward Thigpen and say, “Go on before I kill you.” Then the video shows Thigpen fall to the ground, stating that Ojeda had hit him. Ojeda can be seen taking a stick away from Thigpen before knocking the phone out of his hand.
The officer spoke with Ojeda again, the report says, and Ojeda admitted there was an altercation between the two. Ojeda stated that Thigpen was supposed to be going back to his house but then he started yelling and swinging a stick. Ojeda approached Thigpen to tell him to go home and Thigpen tried to hit Ojeda with the stick, the report says. And that, according to Ojeda in the report, led to the altercation. However, the report notes that the officer did not see Thigpen swing the stick at Ojeda in the video.
Both Thigpen and Ojeda were arrested and taken to jail. Ojeda was charged with terroristic threats and acts as well as simple battery. Thigpen was charged with terroristic threats and acts. Ojeda remains in the Coffee County Jail while Thigpen has been released.
