The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders finally woke up Thursday afternoon. After losing games to the CCA Patriots Monday and Tuesday by a combined score of 21-1, the Crusaders defeated the Patriots 12-2 in six innings Thursday in Lyons.
CCA managed just two hits in the contest. Despite their woes against Crusaders starting pitcher Brittan Tabor, the Patriots at one time held a 2-1 lead. It just didn’t last very long.
The Crusaders scored a run in the bottom of the first. Tabor helped his own cause a little – he singled to right, scoring Christian Mixon for the game’s first run. CCA answered in the top of the second when Landon Williams scored on a wild pitch. An inning later, the Patriots took a 2-1 lead when Jonathan Rutland walked with the bases loaded, scoring Gray McLean.
But that’s all the Patriots would get. RTCA scored three in the bottom of the third, four in the fourth, and four more in the sixth to end the game via 10-run mercy rule.
McLean had both of CCA’s hits in a 2-4 performance. He and Williams scored the Patriots’ runs. CCA used five pitchers in the game. Starter Jett Hart, an eighth grader, took the loss with a two-inning outing. He gave up one earned run on two hits, struck out four, and walked one.
The Patriots have four games remaining, three of which are on the road. They face Trinity Christian on Monday and Brookwood on Tuesday. Wednesday, non-region foe Pinewood Christian Academy comes to town for CCA’s final home game of the regular season. The Patriot wrap things up on Friday, May 2, 2025, on the road against Deerfield-Windsor.
