On April 12, 2025, a Douglas police officer pursued two vehicles traveling south out the city at a high rate of speed and ended up making one arrest on multiple charges.
According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, just after 10 p.m., an officer saw the two vehicles traveling side by side well in excess of the 45 mph posted speed limit. The officer turned his vehicle around at Airport Circle to stop the cars. The report says that the officer finally caught up to the cars near St. Paul Catholic Church. He stopped the car that was traveling faster; the other vehicle got away.
The officer spoke with N’Jorden Blake Carswell, 24, of Douglas, who, according to the report, denied racing. Carswell was driving a green 2015 Dodge Charger (the other vehicle is also believed to be a Charger). The report says that he said he was on way his way to pick up his brother and he wasn’t paying attention to how fast he was going. The report notes that the officer smelled marijuana inside the vehicle.
Carswell was arrested and charged with racing on highways or streets and possession of marijuana. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail and released on bond.
