A March 22, 2025 wedding celebration set in motion a series of alleged events that led to a 54-year-old Douglas man going to jail on multiple counts of financial transaction card theft.
On March 26, 2025, a Douglas police officer responded to a transaction card fraud call. In a Douglas Police Department incident report, the victim reported that she had attended a wedding on March 22 and between 5 and 6:30 p.m., she gave family members rides after the wedding. When she returned home, she attempted to use her debit card but couldn’t find it. The report says she looked extensively for the card but was still unable to locate it.
The report says that she checked her account online and discovered multiple unauthorized charges on the card. The charges included transactions at Walmart, Dollar General, and Mack’s. There were also charges at Circle K.
Officers checked video footage at Walmart, Mack’s, and Circle K and were able to get a description of the suspect. They also saw what kind of vehicle he was driving and were able to get a partial tag number. Officers continued investigating the incident and ultimately identified him as Ronnie Lee Tims, 54, of Douglas.
On April 14, 2025, officers learned that Tims was at Mack’s on McDonald Road. A police officer went to the location and found Tims at one of the slot machines. The officer took Tims into custody. The report says that Tims denied taking or using anyone’s bank card. Tims was charged with one count of financial transaction card theft and eight counts of financial transaction card fraud. He was jailed and later released on bond.
