The CCA Patriots came away from the GIAA state track and field championships in Locust Grove with one individual state championship and several standout performances.
The highlight of the meet came on day two when sophomore Arabelle Roberts won a state title in the high jump. She leapt 5’, two inches ahead of second place. She entered the competition as the 10th seed after a challenging performance at Region and defied expectations to win the title. Arabelle has now placed in the high jump at the state meet every year since eighth grade.
Freshman Felicite Padgett and sophomore Ethan Duran competed in the long jump, each making their first appearance at the state level. While neither posted personal bests—Duran placed 13th—the meet provided important experience for the underclassmen.
Arabelle also competed in the discus during the same session, placing 10th with a throw of 81 feet, 3 inches.
On Saturday, Arabelle returned to the track for the 300-meter hurdles. She completed the event inside the top 10 with a seventh-place finish. The meet marked the end of a busy year for Arabelle. She has competed in five sports – softball, basketball, swimming, tennis, and track. She was a part of the state championship softball team earlier in the school year and now has an individual state title in the long jump on her palmares.
