It’s always good to finish a season on a winning note. The 2025 campaign hasn’t been an easy one for the South Georgia State College Hawks. Injuries and inconsistent play have plagued the Hawks all season long. Thursday, SGSC avenged at least some of their troubles with an 11-6 win over the Andrew College Tigers at home. Earlier in the week, the Hawks had lost a doubleheader to the Georgia Highlands Chargers in Barnesville.
Thursday, SGSC scored all of its runs in two innings – two in the first and nine in the fifth. The Tigers scored two in the sixth, one in the seventh, and three in the ninth.
SGSC head coach Jeff Timothy used eight pitchers in the game with none throwing over two innings. Starter Jared Webb, who threw just 16 pitches in two innings of work, earned the win. He didn’t give up a hit or a run and struck out three to one walk.
Jesse Brown led the way at the plate with a 4-5 day. He drove in three and scored three times. One of his hits was a double. Luke Boone was 2-5 with both of hits being doubles. He drove in two and scored one. Luke Flading and Alex Bairan also had two hits.
The Hawks finish the season with a 25-29 overall record and an 11-17 conference mark. The postseason begins Monday at Stallion Field on the ABAC campus in Tifton. Georgia Highlands, Gordon, and Andrew are in the tournament. SGSC and East Georgia face each other Monday in a one-game play-in to decide who the fourth team will be. The tournament will begin on Tuesday with the fourth seed facing Georgia Highlands at noon.
