Yesterday, a video of an incident officers from the Douglas Police Department investigated late last month began making its rounds on social media platforms. The video is a 1:10 clip of a call that lasted over an hour. DouglasNow does not have the video but it can be accessed in several places.

Thursday morning, the Douglas Police Department issued a statement regarding the incident. The statement is included in its entirety below:

“On May 7, 2025 we were made aware of a video being circulated, concerning an incident that occurred on April 30, 2025.

“On April 30, 2025, at approximately 6:56 p.m., officers with the Douglas Police Department responded to a residence to assist Emergency Medical Services (EMS) following a 911 call reporting a medical emergency. The female caller advised dispatch that she had smoked marijuana and felt as though she was going to die. She further stated that a male subject inside the residence was in possession of the marijuana.

“Upon arrival, officers made contact with the female at the side door of the residence and requested permission to enter. Consent was granted, and officers entered the residence along with EMS personnel to render aid. A strong odor of marijuana was immediately detected throughout the residence. The female was transported to the hospital for treatment.

“While on scene, an officer asked the male subject if there was any marijuana inside the home. The male subject admitted that he had flushed the only blunt he had upon learning that law enforcement was responding. When officers requested consent to search the residence, the male declined.

“Out of concern for the possible destruction of evidence, the responding officer contacted a drug enforcement agent, who advised that all occupants be removed from the residence while a search warrant was obtained. Officers attempted to make contact with the male subject again, but he refused to open the door. Due to exigent circumstances involving potential destruction of evidence, officers made a forced entry into the home.

“The male subject was located and displayed resistance before being safely detained. Once the drug agent arrived on scene, the male subject consented to a search of the residence. During the search, three scales, a partially smoked marijuana blunt, a marijuana grinder and two jars containing marijuana residue were located.

“No arrests were made at the time of the incident.”
