The offseason has been anything but quiet for Miami Dolphins superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill. It’s been one thing after another since the season ended – and little of it has been good.
It’s been well documented that right after Miami’s last game, Hill began making comments that many believed were advocating for a trade. While the Dolphins haven’t made any serious attempts to move Hill, there has been an uneasiness in Miami’s clubhouse throughout the last several months.
It wasn’t long after the season’s conclusion that word leaked regarding a wrist injury Hill suffered before the season began. This offseason, Hill has had two surgeries to repair the injury – one procedure put pins in and the second, which took place last week, removed the pins. At the moment, everyone is optimistic that Hill will be ready for the 2025-2026 campaign.
However, in another troubling development, the off-the-field issues have surfaced again. It seems that every couple of years, Hill gets embroiled in some kind of off-field drama or altercation. This latest incident happened on April 9 when police responded to a domestic call at Hill’s South Florida apartment. Apparently, he and his wife, Lakeeta Vaccaro Hill, had gotten into an argument and her mother called police. Officers responded but no arrests were made.
The day after the incident, Lakeeta filed for divorce. The couple has been married for about a year and half and this is the second time divorce rumors have swirled around the two. They have one child together and are currently separated.
Then there is the matter of Hill giving his opinion regarding the best quarterbacks in the NFL. During session on X last week, when asked who the best quarterbacks were, Hill named Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and Baker Mayfield. He conspicuously left off his own quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, which many close to the team felt was an obvious and intentional insult. It’s another event in a series of troubling incidents that have involved Hill over the last several months that point to his unhappiness in Miami.
So what does all this mean for Hill and the Dolphins? It’s hard to say. At the moment, Hill remains with the team and all sides say they are committed to the upcoming season. However, all sides have also been very vocal about the success of his surgeries, which could be a subtle message to interested teams that Hill is healthy and available.
One thing is certain: The subplots surrounding Hill and the Dolphins haven’t been reconciled. There will be much more to come.
