Coffee Regional Medical Center is proud to share that members of its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team recently participated in advanced simulation training provided by the University of South Florida’s Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS) through their “CAMLS Without Walls” program. This incredible opportunity was made possible through the generosity and support of the American Hospital Association (AHA).
This high-level training focused on pre-hospital airway management and was delivered onsite in Coffee County by expert clinical simulation faculty from CAMLS. The session provided EMS professionals with enhanced skills in critical airway techniques, including:
- Airway anatomy
- Use of Bag Valve Masks (BVMs) and airway adjuncts
- Rapid sequence intubation
- Supraglottic airway devices
- Management of difficult airways, including surgical airway procedures
“Thanks to the support of the AHA and the expertise of CAMLS, our EMS team has gained invaluable, hands-on experience in managing life-threatening airway emergencies in the field,” said Vicki Lewis, CEO of Coffee Regional Medical Center. “This training enhances the level of care we can provide to our community, especially in urgent, high-risk situations when every second counts.”
The training was offered at no cost to the hospital through a generous CAMLS donor and was facilitated by the AHA’s Convening Leaders for Emergency and Response initiative. Coffee Regional Medical Center was honored to be selected as a recipient of this opportunity after collaboration by AHA’s Senior Director of Rural Health Services, John Supplitt, and Rebecca Jolley, AHA Regional Executive.
The CAMLS Without Walls program is designed to eliminate geographic barriers to advanced medical education by bringing world-class simulation training directly to healthcare teams and emergency responders across the country.
“This training underscores our mission to create and provide experiential learning that improves clinical skills and patient care in our community and around the globe,” said Dr. Haru Okuda, Executive Director of CAMLS. “We’re proud to support the vital work of EMS teams like those in Coffee County through our CAMLS Without Walls initiative.”
Coffee Regional Medical Center is deeply grateful to the American Hospital Association and USF Health CAMLS for their dedication to strengthening emergency response training in communities like Douglas and Coffee County. The investment in CRMC’s EMS team today means safer outcomes for patients tomorrow.
