A sex offender who was registered in Jeff Davis County was arrested in Coffee County after she allegedly moved over here and didn’t change her address.
According to a report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, on June 24, 2025, a deputy responded to a criminal trespass call at 9129 Old Axson Road. The deputy spoke with the complainant on the scene and was told that Linda Faye Steedley-Crews, 44, was trespassing at the location. Steedley-Crews is a registered sex offender in Jeff Davis County, the report says.
The report says that Steedley-Crews told the responding officer that she had been kicked out of her home in Jeff Davis County and she was in Coffee County for the night while she looked for a new place to stay. The deputy told her that she would need to report to her law enforcement contact in Jeff Davis County as well as the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office if she intended to stay over here. The report says that Steedley-Crews told the officer she would go back to Jeff Davis County if she couldn’t find a place to stay. A deputy contacted an officer in Jeff Davis County and told her about the incident.
The report states that officers from Jeff Davis County made multiple attempts to contact Steedley-Crews. Jeff Davis issued a warrant for her arrest and Coffee County deputies began looking for her. They investigated at least four different local addresses over the next several days and were unable to locate her.
Finally, on July 5, 2025, an officer found Steedley-Crews at the original location – 9129 Old Axson Road. During interviews, Steedley-Crews stated that she remembered the conversation but didn’t have a way of getting to the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office to report in person. She was arrested and charged with willful obstruction of an officer and failure to register as a sex offender. She was booked into the Coffee County Jail just after 9 p.m. on July 5, 2025.
