One suspect was arrested and another remains on the run in connection with an alleged burglary that took place on Old Axson Road on July 2, 2025. Mark Anthony Sanchez, 25, of Douglas, was arrested and remains in jail while his alleged accomplice, Mitchell Shaun Taft, 44, is at large and wanted by deputies.
The incident report states that around 7:30 p.m. on July 2, 2025, a deputy received a call about a possible burglary at an Old Axson Road address. The home at the address has been vacant for a while and it had been burglarized multiple times.
The deputy found the vehicle, a 2011 Kia Sedona van, and stopped it on Raccoon Bridge Road. The driver, identified as Taft, jumped out of the Kia and ran, according to the report. Sanchez, the passenger, stayed in the vehicle. The deputy went in the direction in which the driver fled and saw a man in an orange shirt walking down the road. The report says the individual saw the deputy and “jumped a ditch and disappeared.”
The deputy went back to the van and questioned Sanchez. There was a hot water heater in the van and the report says that Sanchez initially stated that they had picked it up from Taft’s mother’s home on Arnold Road. The hot water heater had been sitting in the bushes, the report states. However, the officer noticed that the heater was clean and bore no signs of having been in the woods or bushes at all.
After further investigation, the officer determined that the hot water heater had been inside the home on Old Axson Road. Among other pieces of evidence, the report states that there was a door handle from the Sedona in the yard at the home.
Sanchez was arrested and charged with burglary in the 1st degree. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail and remains incarcerated. Taft is on the run and wanted by authorities.
