Special election to fill District 1 county commission seat to take place on November 4

A special election to fill the District 1 county commission vacancy will take place on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, according to the Coffee County elections office. That is the same day the general election for two Public Service Commission seats will also be held.

On Sunday, June 22, 2025, Commissioner Oscar Paulk, who had held the District 1 seat since January 1, 2015, passed away after a brief illness.

Qualifying for the District 1 election will take place from 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2025, until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. The qualifying fee is $127.17. Qualifying candidates will do so at the Coffee County elections office in the new Courthouse Annex building at 224 West Ashley Street, Suite A.

Early voting begins October 14, 2025 and ends on October 31, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., including two Saturdays – October 18 and October 25 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Election Day. A runoff, if necessary, will be held on December 2, 2025. Early voting will take place at the Coffee County elections office.

If you would like to vote in the election and you are not registered, you must register to vote by October 6, 2025, at the Coffee County Board of Elections office or online by midnight on October 6.
