Coffee Regional Medical Center is proud to announce a major advancement in local cardiovascular care with the successful implantation of its first Micra pacemaker—the world’s smallest pacemaker—performed in one of the hospital’s two state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization labs located within the CRMC Heart & Vascular Center.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Kendall Griffith, Interventional Cardiologist at CRMC, and marks a significant milestone in expanding access to innovative cardiac care for patients in Coffee County and surrounding communities.

The Micra Transcatheter Pacing System is a revolutionary, leadless pacemaker that is implanted directly into the heart via a minimally invasive catheter-based technique. Unlike traditional pacemakers, which require a chest incision and electrical leads, the Micra is inserted through the femoral vein and anchored inside the heart—offering a safer approach with fewer complications, reduced infection risk, and faster recovery times.

“We are excited to bring this cutting-edge technology to our community,” said Kendall Griffith, M.D. “The Micra pacemaker represents a major step forward in patient care, offering a less invasive and highly effective option for individuals with bradycardia or other rhythm disorders.”

The successful implantation reflects the depth of expertise and the growing capabilities of Coffee Regional’s Heart & Vascular Center, which features two advanced cardiac catheterization labs equipped with the latest imaging and interventional technology. These labs allow the hospital to provide a broad range of diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures locally, eliminating the need for patients to travel for emergent and specialized care.

“This milestone reinforces our commitment to providing much needed cardiovascular care close to home,” said Vicki Lewis, President & CEO of Coffee Regional Medical Center. “Our investment in technology, highly skilled providers, and innovative treatments ensures that our patients have access to the very best in heart care—right here in Douglas.”

Coffee Regional Medical Center is a proud Emory Healthcare Network Affiliate, a collaboration that supports continuous improvement in quality and safety initiatives and extends access to next-level expertise when needed—strengthening the overall cardiovascular care available to the communities CRMC serves.
