Two of the drivers involved in a three-car accident Sunday afternoon on the Willacoochee Highway were cited for DUI. One individual was transported from the scene with visible but non-life-threatening injuries.
According to an accident report from the Georgia State Patrol, Robin Cummings of Orlando was driving an EZ-Go golf cart north on the Willacoochee Highway when the vehicle turned left in front of a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Larry Joel Squires of Douglas, who was traveling south. The report says that Cummings failed to yield to Squires and the two vehicles collided.
A tire from the golf cart came off and hit a Ford Edge driven by Theresa Nugent Lott of Pearson. The golf cart came to a stop facing north in the southbound lane.
The report says that Squires fled the scene and was found just up the road at the store at the intersection of the Willacoochee Highway and Old Pearson Highway. Squires stated that he had been to the Dollar General on the Willacoochee Highway and was headed home when the golf cart turned in front of him. He said he was blowing the horn at Cummings but he didn’t stop, according to the report.
Cummings was transported to Coffee Regional Medical Center for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Both Cummings and Squires were cited for DUI. Additionally, Squires was charged with failure to report an accident, safety restraint violation, hit and run, endangering a child by driving under the influence, driving while license suspended, a bench warrant, and a probation violation.
