Saturday afternoon, Coffee County firefighters responded to a devastating house fire in Baymeadows that resulted in a total loss of the home. Residents were there at the time of the blaze but thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Around 6:30 p.m., the call came in and multiple units were dispatched to the location. When firefighters arrived, the home was fully involved. The fire started near the back of the house. Early speculation centered around a lightning strike as the cause of the fire. When the fire happened, a storm system that featured significant lightning was making its way through the county. However, county fire chief Steve Carver stated that the official cause remains undetermined.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly but the damage had been done. The home and most of its contents were destroyed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
