A 58-year-old Ambrose woman was arrested and jailed for allegedly passing three fake $100 bills at a local Dollar General store.

On the afternoon of August 17, 2025, a deputy responded to the Dollar General store at Vickers Crossing in Ambrose. Store employees told the responding officer that Sherry Nipper, 58, of Ambrose, had been in the store three times that week and had passed or attempted to pass a fake $100 bill each time. On August 17, she had been in and attempted to purchase $16.38 worth of merchandise, according to the incident report. She allegedly tried to pay with a $100 bill but the cashier noticed that it was movie money. The report says that Nipper stated that she didn’t know it was fake and said she didn’t want the items. Then she left the store.

Also on August 15, the store manager was looking at the week’s totals and noticed that on two days, the register came up $100 short. On each of those days, the report says, Nipper had been in the store and paid with cash. When she checked security footage, she could see that Nipper had paid with the same kind of bills.

The officer went to Nipper’s house and questioned her. She told the officer a different story than she told the store employees, the report says. Nipper was arrested and charged with three counts of theft by taking. She was booked into the Coffee County Jail and later released.
