Wendell Purvis, age 72, of Douglas, GA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 26th, 2025, following an extended illness. He was born on May 6th, 1953, the son of Mr. Bethel Purvis and Mrs. Myrtice Purvis.
His survivors include: his beloved wife, Lynn Maddox Purvis of Douglas, GA; two sons, Shayne (Debbie) Purvis of Douglas, GA and Bruce (Amber) Purvis of Douglas, GA; one daughter, LeAnn Purvis Jackson of Birmingham, AL; seven grandchildren, Buddy (Jordan) Watkins, Ashley (Chip) Payne, Mallory Jackson, Bella Purvis, Colt Jackson, Will Purvis and Emmalyn Purvis; two great grandchildren, Axton Payne and Lloyd Payne; two sisters, Agnes Futch and Janice Cribb; two sisters-in-law, Nelly Purvis and Beverly (Tim) Wyatt; two brothers-in-law, David Maddox and Chuck (Kim) Maddox; mother-in-law, Sara Barganier; father-in-law, Truett (Jean) Maddox, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: father, Bethel Purvis; mother, Myrtice Purvis; sister, Mary Alice Anderson; brother, Joe Purvis; four brothers-in-law, Steve Maddox, W.L. Futch, Alvin Cribb, and Milford Anderson; and one sister-in-law, Sondra Maddox.
The family will welcome friends for public visitation on Friday, August 29th, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Sims Funeral Home in Douglas, GA.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30th, 2025, at the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home in Douglas, GA, at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Cornelius Phillips, and Jordan Watkins officiating. Music selections will be brought by Amber Purvis, “Goodness of God”, “Victory in Jesus”, and “Ill Fly Away” at graveside.
Active pallbearers will include: Chip Payne, Mickey Anderson, Michael Cribb, Scott Rice, Jason Merritt, Justin Merritt, David Thrift, and Jason Whiddon.
Honorary pallbearers will include Trucks Inc. and staff.
Sims Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
