Around 1:30 p.m. on August 14, 2025, a Douglas police officer responded an East Bryan Street address in response an altercation of some kind. When the officer arrived, he found a different incident than had been reported.
According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, the complainant, Suzie Leinaala Bertagnolli, 24, of Douglas, stated that two individuals had assaulted her. In the report, Bertagnolli stated that she was talking to one of the subjects, a male, when “he snapped on her.” Bertagnolli did have some marks on her neck and left arm.
Witnesses, however, told a different story. The report says that when Bertagnolli saw the vehicle that the individuals were in, she ran across Fales Avenue and opened the driver’s side door. Then, the report states, she started hitting the individual who was in the passenger’s seat, a female. The male pulled Bertagnolli off of the female. The male victim had a cut on his face and scratches on his neck. The female victim had scratches and swelling on the right side of her neck as well, according to the report.
Based on the information gathered at the scene, the officer arrested Bertagnolli and charged her with battery and criminal trespass. She was booked into the Coffee County Jail and later released.
On August 28, 2025, an officer from the Douglas Police Department arrested Bertagnolli again on burglary in the 1st degree charges. She was booked into the Coffee County Jail where she remains.
