On September 1, 2025, a 51-year-old Douglas man was arrested and charged with two counts of financial transaction card fraud after he allegedly used a debit card from a wallet he found on the ground.

An incident report from the Douglas Police Department states that an individual reported that she had lost her wallet and someone had used her debit card since it had been missing. She said that she had walked to McDonald’s around lunch and must have dropped it on the way back to her house. She later received a text message that her card had been used at a nearby store.

The officer went to the store and eventually discovered that Larry James Thomas, 51, of Douglas, was the subject who allegedly used the card. Officers found Thomas at a house on South Pearl Avenue. They also found the missing wallet there as well. The report says that Thomas had found the wallet and the owner had given him permission to use the card.

Thomas was charged with two counts of financial transaction card fraud and transported to the Coffee County Jail. He remains incarcerated.
