South Georgia State College announces the appointment of Taylor Parker as the new head coach of the Lady Hawks softball program. Parker brings with her a proven record of success both on the field and in coaching, as well as a strong commitment to developing student-athletes academically, athletically, and personally.
Parker most recently served as an assistant softball coach at Wesleyan College in Macon, where she was responsible for recruiting, practice planning, strength and conditioning, game-day operations, budgeting, and field maintenance. Prior to Wesleyan, she served as an assistant coach at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama, where she helped lead the program while creating a positive and competitive team culture.
In addition to her coaching background, Parker gained valuable leadership experience as Student Life Coordinator at Southern Union State Community College. In that role, she organized events, managed budgets, coordinated intramural sports, and collaborated with faculty, staff, and community partners which are skills that translate directly into building a strong and vibrant athletic team.
As a standout collegiate athlete, Parker earned numerous honors, including Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Player of the Year, SSAC Golden Glove Award, First-Team SSAC All-Conference, National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First-Team All-Region, and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and NFCA First-Team All-American.
Her playing career began at Wallace Community College, where she was named First-Team All-Conference and All-Region, before transferring to Faulkner University, where she completed her Bachelor of Science in Sports Management. She later earned her Master of Science in Management from Faulkner.
Parker is eager to begin this new chapter at SGSC. “I am excited to join Hawk Nation and continue building a program that values excellence on and off the field,” she says. “My goal is to create a positive, disciplined, and competitive environment where our student-athletes thrive academically, athletically, and personally.”
SGSC Interim President Dr. Greg Tanner welcomed Parker’s addition to the athletics department. He says, “Coach Parker’s accomplishments as both a player and a coach make her a tremendous asset to SGSC. Her leadership, experience, and vision will help our softball program reach new heights while continuing to support our mission of student success.”
The Lady Hawks are currently in their fall season under Parker’s leadership, with home games held on SGSC’s Douglas campus. The regular season will begin in the spring.
