An incident that began as a domestic disturbance early Thursday morning led law enforcement officers to the discovery of a large amount of narcotics and the subsequent arrests of two individuals.

Authorities reported at around 4 a.m., Douglas police officers encountered two people at the Flash Foods store on the north end of Douglas while investigating a domestic call at a residence on Wall St. During the encounter, officers discovered five packages of methamphetamine, a small quantity of the sythetic street drug ‘Molly,’ and other drug-related paraphernalia.

As a result of the incident, James Lamar Smith, age 30 of Douglas, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance.  Twenty-four year-old Amber Nicole Wilson of Douglas was also arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance.

Authorities stated Wilson was further charged with giving a false name and information to a law enforcement officer after officers determined she had given a false name in an attempt to conceal the fact she was a wanted fugitive for an unrelated drug offense which stemmed from a Douglas – Coffee Drug Unit (DCDU) investigation last year.

In March 2014, Wilson was one of several suspects arrested after DCDU detectives executed a search warrant at her home on Miller Road in Douglas, in which over two pounds of marijuana and two handguns were seized.

No charges were filed in connection with the original domestic dispute call.
