Former Ga. House of Representatives Democratic candidate and outspoken civil rights activist Larry Charles Nesmith, Jr. was arrested by Douglas police Monday afternoon following an altercation with another man at a local restaurant.

According to an incident report obtained from the Douglas Police Dept., officers responded to the Ole Times Buffet on S. Madison Ave. just after 2 p.m. Monday after receiving a report of a disorderly person. Authorities made contact with the complainant, identified as 48-year-old Robert Stoney Worthy of an Austell, Ga. address, who stated he and Nesmith had gotten into an argument at the restaurant.

Further investigation into the matter resulted in Nesmith being charged with one count of simple battery. He was arrested at the scene and transported to the Coffee County Jail.

Nesmith ran an unsuccessful campaign against current Ga. House Representative Dominic LaRiccia in 2014. He has also served as president of the local chapter of the NAACP.
