Two people were jailed Tuesday afternoon following a high-speed chase through downtown Douglas involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

Detectives and K-9 officers from the Douglas – Coffee Drug Unit (DCDU) were involved in a vehicle pursuit in the southeast section of the city. DCDU was assisted by the Douglas – Coffee HEAT Unit, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, the Douglas Police Department, and the Georgia State Patrol.

The chase began on east Baker Hwy. and ended in the 900 block of Brooks Ave. after the suspect hit a light pole. The driver then fled on foot, but was apprehended shortly afterwards.

Authorities stated that, following the vehicle pursuit, a search of a nearby residence in Douglas was conducted by DCDU and CCSO.

DCDU seized over $2,000 cash, a handgun, ¾ of a pound of marijuana, and other controlled substances. The driver of the fleeing vehicle and a second person at the residence has been arrested.

DCDU officials stated they will release more details and suspect information within the next few days and added both suspects are currently serving probated sentences for felony convictions not related to this incident.
