Officials with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday that convicted child molester William Alonzo Fender was arrested after being found in the presence of children, a violation of his probation.

Fender, age 34, was charged with child molestation in December of 2006 and convicted in Atkinson County Superior Court in May of 2008. He is required by law to report certain information to the sheriff’s office in the county in which he resides. He is also required to notify the sheriff’s office 72 hours prior to changing addresses or taking employment at any job.

Authorities state Fender failed to report to the sheriff’s office before beginning employment at a local job. When detectives learned that he had not reported the job, they made contact with him and advised him to do so. When Fender did not respond, detectives then went to the residence where he had reported living, the Day’s Inn motel in Douglas. When he could not be located at the motel, detectives stated they later found him at his father’s residence on North Daughtry Avenue in Douglas. Detectives said they also observed children at the residence and in the presence of Fender.

Fender was arrested for failure to report employment, and detectives also learned that, as part of his probation, he was not allowed to be around children.  A warrant was also obtained by the probation office for this violation.

Fender is currently being held in the Coffee County Jail.
