Douglas Now has received numerous inquiries over the last couple weeks in regards to Douglas Police Officer Tameka Williams and her current employment status with the department in light of her recent indictment for voter fraud.

A open records request for documents pertaining to Officer Williams’s situation was sent to the City of Douglas by a private individual not associated with Douglas Now, and that person has provided us with the information provided by city officials.

Based solely on the information contained in these documents, here is what we currently know:

1. Officer Williams was recently indicted by a Coffee County Grand Jury on one charge of voter fraud after allegedly voting in the 2015 Douglas muncipal election even though she was not a city resident. She submitted a letter of resignation in lieu of termination on Nov. 19, which was witnessed by Sgt. Robert Sprinkle and Commander Bart McCulloch of the Douglas Police Dept. Her resignation was accepted on the same day by Deputy Chief Brannon Pruette.

2. On Nov. 20, Officer Williams submitted an appeal to City Manager Terrell Jacobs claiming she was unfairly forced to resign her position and that proper procedures and investigations were not conducted.

3. An appeal hearing for Williams was held on Nov. 23, and officials rescinded Williams’s resignation, opting to place her on suspension without pay until the voter fraud charge against her is settled by the courts. If Williams is found not guilty, she will be compensated for the time she was suspended. If she is determined to be guilty, Williams’s employment will be terminated immediately.

Williams’s certification as a Georgia Peace Officer has also been temporarily suspended pending an investigation by state officials.

We have provided images of the documents obtained through the City of Douglas in regards to Officer Williams’s case below and will continue to follow this story as more details are revealed.
