The South Georgia State College baseball team split a home doubleheader March 3 with the junior varsity team from Point University, winning the first game 9-3 and dropping the second 5-3.

In the first game of the series, SGSC jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Hawks tacked on another run in the second. Point University tied up the game in the top of the fourth, but SGSC followed with a five-run explosion. The Hawks scored on an RBI single by Stephen Cruver, a two-run single by Chase Hinson, and an RBI single by Chandler Rogers.

Point University came back with one run in the top of the fifth, but the Hawks added another two runs in the bottom of the sixth to keep the lead.

Drew Johns got the win for SGSC. He allowed three runs over five innings and struck out eight, walked one and surrendered eight hits.

The Hawks fell short in game two after losing the lead in the ninth inning. The game got off to a slow start with no runs being scored by either team until the top of the fifth when Point University scored two. The sixth and seventh innings saw the only three runs by the Hawks. Cruver brought on the sixth inning run with an RBI single. Jacob Schmidt scored one run and had one RBI with a home run in the seventh. Point University pulled out the win after scoring the final two runs in the ninth inning.

Luke Sims took the loss on the mound for the Hawks. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings, walked two, struck out two, and allowed two runs.
