The South Georgia State College Hawks (10-12) swept the Lake Michigan Red Hawks in a three-game series at home March 5-6 – 10-0, 9-3, and 13-2.

SGSC’s Cayden Hatcher delivered an impressive performance on the mound as he came away with a no-hitter in game one of the series. He ended with six strikeouts and no walks while recording his momentous feat.

“A no-hitter is a wonderful accomplishment for Cayden,” says SGSC Coach Jeff Timothy. “I’m not surprised based on his competiveness and strong work ethic. He has assumed the role of ace on our pitching staff this season, and so far he has done an outstanding job.”

Eight runs in the first three innings allowed SGSC to easily put away Lake Michigan in five innings. An RBI double by Mikal Flores and an RBI single by Cameron Coffey in the first, followed by a two-run double by Conner Durden and an RBI single by Sean Bryan in the second, supplied the early offense for the Hawks.

The Hawks kept the momentum going in the second game with runs in the second and third innings and a sixth-inning burst. The bats were hot for the Hawks as Coffey, Durden, Chandler Rogers, Zack Refuse, Jacob Schmidt, and Chase Hinson all recorded hits.

Joe Parete got the win in relief for the Hawks after pitching 1 1/3 innings and allowing no runs.

The final game of the series on Sunday had the Hawks scoring early. The Red Hawks only saw two runs go over the plate in the first and fourth innings. SGSC scored runs in almost every inning of play.

Bryan reached base four times in the game, scoring three runs and contributing with an RBI. He singled in the second and seventh innings and doubled in the eighth.

Rafuse racked up thirteen strikeouts in the landslide win. He allowed no earned runs, three hits and one walk over six innings.
