Joyce B. Smith, age 82, of Douglas, GA passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Smith was born on May 8, 1933, in Hazlehurst, GA to the late James Freddie Burkett and Dora Alexander Burkett.

Survivors include: her two daughters, Dorothy (Curtis) Porter of Douglas, GA and Mary (Wade) King of Abbeville, GA; three sons, Randall (Sue) Smith of Douglas, GA, Johnny (Connie) Smith of Douglas, GA and James (Elaine H) Smith of Douglas, GA; brother, James Burkett of Douglas, GA; fourteen grandchildren; two nephews, Ricky Burkett of Douglas, GA and Wayne Burkett of Douglas, GA; niece, Connie Burkett (Johnny) Smith of Douglas, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Phillip “Pat” Smith; a daughter, Patricia Graham; and a niece, Cindy Taylor.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 20, 2016 and Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m at Sims Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Harvest Time Church of God with Rev. Levi Jones, Rev. Bobby Pope, Rev. Johnny Smith, Rev. Jackie Flanagan and Rev. Loyce Burkett officiating. Interment will follow at Douglas City Cemetery.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
