Douglas was ranked this week in another national report, but this time the news was good.  Douglas placed 76th in the country for teachers to live and work on list compiled by goodcall.com, which ranked over 900 U.S. metro areas and surrounding cities on job and lifestyle opportunities they provide for K-12 teachers.

According to goodcall.com representatives, Douglas was ranked as a great place for teachers because of strong teacher salaries, great local school ratings, and a healthy job market.

“We set out to identify which parts of the U.S. are particularly teacher-friendly so that new teachers entering the field and those who are looking to relocate know which cities offer them the best backdrop for their career,” said Carrie Wiley of GoodCall, who contributed to the report.

Cities were ranked on four criteria:

* Affordability – Local teacher salaries weighed with local housing costs
* Job Competition – Current open teacher job positions weighed with the number of resumes posted for hire
* School Ratings – Ratings for school districts within each metro area
* Lifestyle – The number of local restaurant, arts and entertainment amenities per capita

“This year, top ranking cities were concentrated in small to mid-sized cities – predominantly, but not exclusively, in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the U.S.,” said Wiley. “Large metropolitan areas such as New York and Los Angles were notably missing from the top 100, suggesting that small towns may be the place to be for K-12 teachers looking for a strong community and affordable lifestyle.”
