Waycross police chief installed as board member of Georgia Police Chiefs’ Association

Police Chief Anthony H. (Tony) Tanner was sworn in as the new 4th Vice President of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP) on Wednesday, July 27, 2016.  The GACP is the organization that represents Chiefs of Police from across the State of Georgia and, as one of its duties, is responsible for the training and professional development of all Chiefs of Police.

Chief Tanner is the police chief for the City of Waycross, Ga.  He was appointed as chief in 2005 and continues to serve as chief.  Chief Tanner’s career in law enforcement began in 1987 with the Waycross Police Department.  He held numerous positions within the department before being appointed chief.  Chief Tanner is a graduate of Columbus State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. Additionally, Chief Tanner is a graduate of the FBI National academy 180th session and the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College class 1.  Among some of other achievements,   Chief Tanner was named by GACP as the Chief of the Year in 2011.  Chief Tanner is also past president of the Waycross Exchange Club.

Chief Tanner resides in Waycross with his wife Cindy and has three grown children and four grandchildren.
