School board extends superintendent’s contract

Thursday night, the board of education voted to extend the contract of Dr. Morris Leis, school superintendent, for three more years. Dr. Leis is pictured above with Simona Watts-Lacoste, the school system's teacher of the year for 2016-2017.

At Thursday’s regular board of education meeting, the board unanimously voted to extend the contract of Dr. Morris Leis, school superintendent, for three more years.

Dr. Leis came to the Coffee County School System from Wayne County, where he served as school superintendent. Prior to becoming superintendent, Dr. Leis was a teacher, coach, athletic director, and principal. He is a Douglas native and graduate of Coffee High School.

“I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to continue to serve the Coffee County Board of Education has the school superintendent. I am proud of the work that our teachers, faculty, and staff are doing here in Coffee County. I look forward to continuing to work to achieve our mission of ‘Destination Graduation for College, Career, and Life’ for all of our students,” stated Dr. Leis.

His contract expires on June 20, 2019.
