Five South Georgia State College players are preparing for the next steps in their college baseball careers by signing letters of intent last week. The players will be dominant forces on the SGSC Hawks team this spring and then part ways to continue playing at the next level.

Bradly Cammack, a right handed pitcher from Treutlen County, Ga., has committed to Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. Bradly is a transfer from Darton State College, a school that made an appearance in the 2016 JUCO World Series. “He will be used primarily as a starter this spring,” Head Coach Jeff Timothy says. “Cammack possesses tremendous pitchability and will help anchor the rotation this season.”

Zach Rafuse came to SGSC from Baker County, Fla., as a right handed pitcher and outfielder. He has committed to University of South Carolina (USC)-Aiken. His impressive hitting record is evident with a .317 batting average, 9 doubles, 2 triples, 4 homeruns, 22 runs batted in, 30 runs scored, and 9 stolen bases. As a pitcher, he has 7 wins, 4 losses, and 66 strikeouts in 76 innings pitched. “Zach serves as a two way player for us,” states Coach Timothy.  “This season he is expected to be our number one arm and has been asked to be a leader on this club.  He is a tremendous athlete and is very competitive.”

Also committing to USC-Aiken is Chandler Rogers, a right handed shortstop from Commerce, Ga. He has a .266 batting average, 8 doubles, 30 runs batted in, 46 runs scored, and 15 stolen bases. According to Coach Timothy, “The biggest asset for Rogers is his glove. He is a excellent defender that anchors the left side of our infield and is a proven leader. His offensive game has steadily improved and we expect more impressive offensive numbers from him this season.”

Hailing from Gainesville, Fla., is Cameron Coffey, a left handed outfielder who has committed to Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. Coffey lead the conference in hitting with a .445 batting average, 17 doubles, 5 triples, 1 homerun, 29 runs batted in, 19 stolen bases, and he has scored 58 runs for the Hawks. “Cameron was a first team all-conference player as a freshmen,” says Coach Timothy. “His ability to hit at the top of the order to get our offense going has made a huge impact over the past two seasons.

Shawn Blue, a right handed pitcher from Tallahassee, Fla., has committed to Florida A & M University (FAMU).  He is credited with 1 win, 0 losses, 3 saves, and 27 strikeouts during 26 innings pitched. “Shawn is an aggressive pitcher that can command his slider for a strike,” according to Coach Timothy. “He is an ultra-competitor that has made an impact the past two seasons at SGSC.”

Coach Timothy adds, “The SGSC baseball program is fortunate to have players of this caliber who have already been tapped by four year schools. This shows the quality of our program and our players. We wish them all the best as they travel to their new schools next fall.”
