James Merritt, age 69, of Broxton, Ga. passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Merritt was born on November 26, 1947, in Ambrose, Ga. to the late Thomas Amos Merritt and Annie Ruth Fussell Merritt.

Survivors include: his wife, Marie Merritt of Broxton, Ga.; four sons, Jimmy Raper of Pridgen, Ga., Jerome Merritt of Douglas, Ga., Amos Merritt of Workmore, Ga., and Chris Merritt of Broxton, Ga.; three sisters, Lounelle Beecher of Grenville, Sc., Carolyn Bryson of Mt. Airy, Ga., and Faye Nugent of Douglas, Ga.; fifteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three nieces; one nephew; and several cousins.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 2, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Sims Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel of Sims Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Deen and Rev. Chris Merritt officiating. Interment will follow at Merritt Family Cemetery.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
