The SGSC Foundation hosted a holiday reception at the Atrium in downtown Douglas on Dec. 8, 2016. The event was an opportunity for the community to meet South Georgia State College’s Interim President, Dr. Ingrid Thompson-Sellers, and to show the college’s appreciation to all of the individuals, businesses, and government officials for their support throughout the past year.

During the event, two SGSC Foundation scholarship recipients shared their appreciation for tuition support as well as their current and future goals. Miss Sarah Lorin Tucker from Broxton is a 2016 honor graduate from Coffee High School and is the recipient of the Ouida Alexander Memorial Scholarship. Lorin stated her goal is to obtain an Associate of Science in nursing degree at SGSC, then continue her education and become a nurse anesthetist.

Mr. Tyler Lott of Ambrose is a 2015 honor graduate from Coffee High School and a sophomore at SGSC. He is the recipient of the Frank Hanna, Jr. family scholarship. Tyler shared his goal is to obtain an Associate of Science degree in business administration at SGSC, then further his education and obtain a bachelor’s degree in wildlife management. Both Lorin and Tyler said they hope to return to Coffee County to live and work upon completing their education.

The SGSC Foundation is proud to provide scholarships for academically talented students such as Lorin and Tyler. In addition, the SGSC Foundation supports efforts to create new academic programs, student services, faculty/staff development, athletic programs, and capital projects.

To learn more about making a donation to support scholarships or other initiatives at SGSC, contact Ms. Walda Kight, SGSC Vice President for External Affairs, at 912-260-4274.
