Joel T. Smith, age 81, of Douglas, Ga., passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2017, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Smith was born on October 23, 1935, in Douglas, Ga., to the late William Manning Smith and Lovie Merritt Smith.
Survivors include: his wife, Betty Hursey Smith of Douglas, Ga.; two sons, William M. (Tracy) Smith of Lithia Springs, Ga. and Joel A. Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Amanda Smith Simpson, Garrett Myers, and Spencer Myers; two great-grandchildren, Holden Meyers and Avery Simpson; sister, Carolyn (Jimmy) Weeks of Douglas, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Tanner Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Jordan officiating. Interment followed at Tanner Baptist Church Cemetery. Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
