In 1999, Zaxby’s opened in Douglas. Back then, it was a big deal. Zaxby’s wasn’t the franchise it is now, with restaurants in small towns throughout the region. The Zaxby’s of the late 90s and early 2000s was a restaurant reserved for larger towns, usually those with large colleges or universities.

So when the DeMersseman brothers brought Zaxby’s to town, it was headline-worthy. A lot with the company and the local restaurant has changed over the years. But two things have remained constant: Thorn Sims and Patrick Covin. Both joined the Zaxby’s team in 2002 – Patrick in April and Thorn in September. After all these years, Patrick and Thorn are still there.

Patrick is one of the top cooks at Zaxby’s. He does most of the frying on the night shift – he works a second job during the day and comes in a few nights a week to help out. Patrick is an inspiration to the new hires. They see the work and dedication he puts into his job, and that motivates them to give their best.

Thorn is someone with whom many customers are familiar. He washes dishes and also helps keep the dining area clean and attractive. He interacts with customers regularly and is always cheerful. His work is far from glamorous but he performs his tasks with a smile on his face.

These two faithful employees are a big reason why Zaxby’s is going on two decades in Douglas and Coffee County. The Zaxby’s corporation and the restaurant’s customers are thankful for what Patrick and Thorn do each day.
