During the weekend of November 3-4, Coffee County 4-H members traveled to Rock Eagle 4-H Center along with Atkinson, Quitman, and Irwin counties to participate in the Georgia 4-H Statewide Junior Conference. Participants included Abygail Harper and Glenn O’Steen as well as Savannah Cothern who attended as a Teen Instructor and Leader for the weekend. The 4-H members participated in workshops, community service projects, friendly competitions, a dance, and enjoyed an evening of entertainment by Georgia 4-H’s Clovers & Co. We would like to thank Mr. Phillip Edwards, Irwin County Extension Coordinator, for transporting and chaperoning our 4-H members on this trip.

Hog Show Tagging Day

4-H and FFA members as well as pre-club students interested in showing a hog in the 2019 County Market Hog Show in February need to bring their pigs to Billy Walker Livestock Building at Coffee Middle School on Tuesday, November 27, between the hours of 4:00 and 5:30 PM. There will not be a vet for drawing blood work, so exhibitors will be responsible for getting this done on their own. This is the last tagging day, so don’t miss it. For more information, please contact your 4-H Agent or FFA Advisor.

4-H Adopt-A-Highway Workday

4-H members are reminded of the next 4-H Adopt-A-Highway on Thursday, November 15, at 4 PM. 4-H’ers should meet at the 4-H office for this activity. We are usually finished by 5 pm, so parents who don’t stay and help should be back at 5 PM to pick up their children.

Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule

Please take note that the UGA Extension office in Coffee County will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday on Wednesday, November 21, through Friday, November 23. We will reopen with normal business hours of 8 AM to 12 PM, and 1 PM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday, on Monday, November 26. With the UGA labs closing during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, make sure to check with our office before bringing in samples such as water, soil, or tissue.

Fall Forum

The Georgia 4-H Board of Directors are planning a fun-filled weekend for Fall Forum, “4-H: Where the Light Is.” The weekend (December 8-9) includes a mix of workshops and educational sessions along with opportunities for community service and exhibits. Registration for Fall Forum is open to any current 9th-12th grade 4-H members in the 2018-2019 school term. This event provides many opportunities for project work, competition, networking, and training for youth and adults.

The registration fee is $87 and is due by Tuesday, November 20. The registration fee covers Saturday lunch, dinner, and lodging, as well as Sunday breakfast. Pizzas can be ordered Saturday morning or at lunch and are $12 each.

There will be a Fall Forum 4K race on Sunday morning. The registration fee for the race is $12 and includes a Clover Glove race t-shirt.

4-H members can apply to teach a workshop or lead a community service project at Fall Forum. The application information is available from the 4-H office. This application deadline is 5 PM on Wednesday, November 14. Students may also apply to enter an exhibit in the Exhibit Fair. This would be a great way to add to your DPA Portfolio’s “Helping and Sharing” section. Application for the exhibit fair is due by 5 PM on Wednesday, November 28.

You are also asked to contribute canned foods to the “4‑H Cans Hunger” service project. Be sure to turn in your canned foods to the 4-H office before December 1st.

Please feel free to contact the 4-H office if you have additional questions about Fall Forum.

If you would like to learn how you can become more involved with the Coffee County 4-H program, please contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402 or visit our website at http://coffee4h.org.
