Coffee freshman FFA competes in the Area 6 Nursery/Landscape CDE

Recently, the Coffee Freshmen FFA Chapter placed first at the Area 6 Nursery/Landscape Career Development Event (CDE). The team consisted of Hannah Austin (1st High Individual), Emilee Herrington (3rd high individual), Kaci Austin (4th high individual) and Sarah Davis (8th high individual). The team competed at the Area 6 CDE held at Brantley County Middle School on January 31 against nine other teams. They will travel to the state CDE held in Athens at the University of Georgia and represent Area 6 on March 22, 2019.

The Nursery/Landscape CDE is designed to test students’ skills in aspects of maintaining landscape plants and related products, evaluation equipment and services, and landscape design through hands-on work and a scenario to work through as a team, as well as a written exam and plant identification test that is done individually.

“We have worked four years to make this dream a reality. We finally have the opportunity to show/ demonstrate the knowledge and skills we have gained the past four years and hopefully bring home the gold and walk away state champs,” says Hannah Austin.

The Georgia FFA Organization is a youth organization of more than 42,000 student members focused on preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.  Georgia Department of Education provides support, leadership and helps set direction for the FFA as a service to the local agricultural education programs.
