Kevin Tatum, County Extension Coordinator

4-H members who are attending summer camp can take advantage of one more fundraiser to help offset their camp fees. We have a Boston butt sale from Hog-N-Bones. Parents should come to the 4-H office to get tickets to sell. 4-H members get $4 per Boston butt sold towards their camp fee. Orders are due back to the 4‑H office by Wednesday, March 27.

4-H Camp Information

There are still a few spaces left for the various 4-H camps this summer. Cloverleaf 4-H members (4-6 graders) will camp at Rock Eagle the week of July 1-5. Junior 4-H members (7-8 graders) will camp at Camp Jekyll the week of June 17-21. Senior 4-H members (9-12 graders) will also camp at Rock Eagle, but they will camp the week of May 27-31. Other specialty camps offered to Junior 4-H members are Wilderness Challenge Camp at Wahsega 4-H Center the week of July 1-5, or Marine Resources Camp at Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island the week of July 8-12 or July 15-19.  Senior 4-H members can also attend Senior Extreme Camp at the Rock Eagle Pioneer Camp the week of June 10-14. If you have a 4-H member interested in attending any of these camps, please come by the 4-H office and discuss it with us.

The total cost for these camps runs between $335 and $380 depending on the camp.  A deposit of at least $95 or $100 must be paid at sign up and the balance is due by May 1. Checks should be made payable to: Coffee County Extension/ 4‑H.

We will also have some camp scholarships available to active 4-H members who need financial assistance to attend camp. If you know an active 4-H member in 4-12 grade interested in attending camp, please encourage them to apply for a camp scholarship.

The weekend will include a motivational speaker, college recruiters, a semi-formal/formal dance, an outdoor after-dance party including inflatable obstacles and slides, snacks, and a lot of fun! Don’t miss out on this great weekend with your friends at Rock Eagle!

Junior 4-H Conference

Cost for participants is $75 for the two day conference if paid by March 15. This weekend will include a lot of fun activities on the beach, some educational workshops, a dance, and much more. It’s a great opportunity to meet new friends from all over Southeast Georgia. Seventh and eighth graders interested in attending need to sign up today.

Can Tabs for Ronald McDonald House

Coffee County 4-H is asking Coffee County residents to collect can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Charities project. These tabs help provide lodging and meals for families with children receiving medical treatment at hospitals. It provides a home away from home for parents who have to deal with some very stressful situations in their families’ lives. Tabs can be turned in at the Coffee County Extension office located in the Coffee County Agricultural Center on East Ward Street. Remember, every little can tab helps!

If you would like to learn how you can become more involved with the Coffee County 4-H program, please contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402 or visit our website at http://coffee4h.org.
