Mrs. Ruby Ricketson Johnson, age 93 of Broxton, passed away early Friday morning, April 12, 2019 at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Johnson was born February 3, 1926 to the late Robert Taft Ricketson and the late Fannie Lott Ricketson. She was also preceded in death by eight siblings, Robert Taft Ricketson, Ivella Gillum, John M. Ricketson, Jaunell McCallum, Dorothy Thurman, Vilas Ricketson, Juanita Foskey and Mary Alice Ricketson; two granddaughters, Syanne Musgrove and Martha Anne Twiggs; two grandsons, Hunter Railey and Carlton Musgrove. 

Mrs. Johnson lived in Broxton her entire adult life. She was a faithful and active member of Broxton First Baptist Church for 65 years. She was selfless in her work in the church and her devotion to all its activities.

She was a member of TOPS, AlaNon, the Broxton Woman’s Club, WMU and Sunshiners. She loved these organizations and the friends she made over the years. She also served the Broxton community through her job as city clerk, her volunteer work with Meals on Wheels and her care and concern for the unchurched in the community.

She enjoyed her yard and beautiful flowers. She toiled tirelessly gathering fruits and vegetables to fill her pantry and freezers. She worked for years in the Broxton Coat Factory and took in sewing for family income. She raised five children and set before them the example of love, forgiveness and steadfastness.

She cherished her special friends who were devoted to her and never tired of sharing their lives with her. She loved her family and was never happier than when she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who loved her with a love that will never die. 

Survivors include: Children Martha Johnson Quinn and husband Derryl of Leesburg, Glenda Johnson Martin and husband Ken of Gainesville, John Harlan Johnson and friend Abby Kight of Broxton, Vance Darryl Johnson of Cullman, Ala., Valecia Johnson Musgrove and friend Scotty Souther of Douglas; siblings Arleatha Tate of Denton, Charles Ricketson of Denton, Wayman Ricketson of Denton; and 15 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

The memorial service was Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 3:00 P.M. at Broxton Baptist Church. The inurnment followed in the Broxton City Cemetery.

Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
