Mr. George Horace Burke

Mr. George Horace Burke, age 91, of Broxton, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas due to an extended illness. Mr. Burke was born in Douglas on February 22, 1928 to the late Archie Burke and Myrtice Conners Burke.

His survivors include: Wife, Betty Lorraine Thurman Burke of Broxton; sons, Ted Burke and wife Elaine of Broxton, Billy J. Burke and wife Cindy of Douglas, and George Horace Burke Jr. and wife Teresa of Wray; six grandchildren, Tracy Burke, Jason Burke, Amber Bounds, Justin Burke, Chris Burke, and Josh Burke; eight great-grandchildren, Kalie Torres, Austin Burke, Jakson Bounds, Jeremiah Burke, Lila Bounds, Rylee Burke, Aden Burke, and Ava Claire Burke; great-great-grandchild, Beckham Torres, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mr. Burke was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia McCook; two brothers, Billy Burke and Larry Burke; and two grandchildren, Christy Nichole Burke and Amy Nichole Burke.

The funeral service was held on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at 2 PM at the Broxton United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Griffin and Rev. Kevin Bounds officiating. The interment followed at the Broxton City Cemetery with Rev. Joey Copeland officiating the committal.

Sims Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
