Sgt. Earnest Lee Smith, Jr. was born on December 19, 1964 in Coffee County to the late Earnest Lee Smith Sr., and Allene Facison Smith, who preceded him in death. At an early age he attended Broxton Deliverance Center under the leadership of the late Apostle Charles Wilkerson.

Sgt. Smith graduated from Broxton High School, where he played basketball and baseball. He was voted Senior Superlative as Most Athletic. Sgt. Smith was employed with Coffee County Sheriff’s Office for the past 30 years of service where he was known as C-29. He also was employed with Handy Foods Grocery of Broxton and Coffee Regional Medical Center as security.

During his free time, he had a passion for yard work, small engines, growing vegetables, and fishing. For many years he served as a basketball coach for the Pee Wee League with the City of Douglas Recreation Department.

Sgt. Smith leaves to cherish his memory: Three daughters, Aja Townsend (Thomas) Paulk, and Erieyl L. Carswell, both of Douglas, and Angelique M. Smith of Valdosta; son Elexzander L. Carswell of Douglas; special friends Christell McIver, Cande Ibarra, Daniela Joairez, and Joselyn Lbarra; two brothers, Gary Smith of Broxton and Pernell (Jean-Marie) Smith of Douglas; sisters Brenda Graham of Jacksonville, Sharon (Keith) Adams of Broxton, Pamela (Kenneth) Gaskins of Savannah, and Paris Hunt of Broxton; god-daughter Jessica Threatt; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers.

Ernest Lee Smith Jr. of Broxton passed away June 19, 2019. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 23, 2019, at Broxton Church of God. McIver Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
