James Lamar Whitehead, age 92, of Willacoochee, passed away on Sunday October 20, 2019 at Vista Park following an extended illness.
Mr. Whitehead was born on July 9, 1927 in Baldwyn, Mississippi, the son of the late Johnny Lamar Whitehead and the late Nana Lou Palmer Whitehead. He worked as a timber cutting operator for Smith Logging Company for many years and was a member of First Assembly of God.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Joiner Whitehead and two sisters, Mary Sue Armstrong and Maggie Briggs.
Survivors include three sons, Johnny Whitehead (Bonita) of Willacoochee, Gilbert Hurst (Tammy) of Brunswick and Ronnie Johnson (Susan) of Willacoochee; three daughters, Linda Bolt (Michael) of Fitzgerald, Susan Barber (Terry) of Douglas, and Gloria Crowley (Randy) of Douglas; seventeen grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; sister, Nanlee Williams of Baldwyn Mississippi; a special niece, Monta Sue Wagaman of Douglas; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday October 23, 2019 at First Assembly of God with Rev. Marshall Adcock and Rev. Don Dixon officiating. Interment will follow at Chatterton Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 pm until 9 pm at Sims Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Glen Gardner, Kent Belcher, Brantley Anderson, Brian Whitley, Bruce Whitley and Jody Miller. Musical selections will be “Amazing Grace” and “Through the Fire” by Rev. Jimmy Jordan.
