Kathy Jean Carter, age 58, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2020. Mrs. Carter was born on September 20, 1961 in Douglas, Georgia, the daughter of the late Dobbie Dobson Bennett and the late Myrtle Maxine Merritt Bennett.

Along with her husband, Kathy owned and operated Speed Queen Dry Cleaners.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Van Tanner Carter, Jr.; three brothers, Darryl Bennett, Gary Merritt, Billy Merritt; a sister, Teresa Benton; and a step-brother, Randy Stone.

Survivors include her husband, Van Tanner Carter Sr. of Douglas, GA; son, Barry Carter (Morgan) of Douglas, GA; four grandchildren, Kaden Carter, Audree Carter, Tanner Carter and Chase Carter, all of Douglas, GA; two sisters, Marie Holder (Mark) of Douglas, GA and Brenda Russell of Waycross, GA; brother, Glenn Smith of Brunswick, GA; special niece, Misty Milhollin of Douglas, GA: special parents, Rachel Sutton and Jackie Bennett; aunt, Lurlyne Smith; step-sister, Peggy Lott; step-mother, Carolyn Bennett.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, March 19, 2020 from 6pm until 9pm at Sims Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2020 at 4:00pm at Saving Grace Ministries with Rev. Cliff Kirkland, Rev. Floyd Musgrove and Rev. Robbie Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Satilla Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jordan Merritt, Shawn Taylor, Mark Holder, Kaleb Cotsenmoyer, Michael Benton and Chris Grantham. Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Bennett and Scott Bennett.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
